A recent search of scientific literature on salt and
vampires discovered that at no time in the history of this important issue has
anyone found that putting salt in the corners of your bedroom does nothing to keep
vampires away. In fact, anecdotal evidence
has suggested that salt in the corners does keep them away since there have
been no reports in the literature of vampires entering bedrooms of people with
salt in the corners. While clearly not
conclusive we cannot ignore the fact that after centuries of salts use no one
has shown that it does nothing. Should
we assume it does?
The logic of this scenario is being used by the current political appointees running the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. Led by Robert F. Kennedy Jr, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, a devoted anti-vaccine advocate, the CDC is not saying there is no scientific evidence that vaccines don’t cause autism. This ridiculous wordplay is driving the growing antivaccine movement to further encourage people not to vaccinate their children or get regular vaccines such as the flu. The proliferation of so-called health gurus online has carpet bombed social media with this news, often promoting ridiculous, untested and often dangerous detox protocols for those who have been vaccinated. Parents are wondering if they are to blame for any autistic symptoms of their children and feeling guilty.
Worse the the future consequences. Previously rare or wiped out diseases are coming back into our communities. When a disease outbreak happens in a community with low vaccination rates,
they right it off blaming others, bad nutrition or even calling it a hoax.
But the problem is that there have been many studies looking
for a link between vaccines and autism and there is no data that vaccines or
any kind create a greater incidence of autism. But since you can't really prove it since you can't have a controlled study to give vaccines to some babies and not to others in a controlled environment well nothing can be definitive. But looking at much of the data there simply is not a risk of increased autism among vaccinated in any
research. In fact, the note about vaccines and autism was the result of a deal
with a MAGA Senator, meaning another political decision on public health.
This is dangerous on many levels. The health leadership under the current
administration includes people who are not only agenda driven and former snake
oil salespeople, but have zero empathy for the American people. The public health leadership is hoping
to find a link between vaccines or any pharmaceutical products and autism, meanwhile the research that might find cures for other diseases that effect children, or
learn new ways to reach autistic students in their learning process if set aside. And people who have made a career out of
attacking the efficacy of drug research to sell people on nonsense homeopathic
hoaxes are pushing their own ideology based on fairy dust.
There is a loud chorus of ignorance that supports this, made
up of average people, some of whom want answers as to why their child is like
they are, others who want to feel special because they don’t feel they have achieved
what they should have in life. Yet
others who will cash in on this through selling fake cures or with internet
clicks and ad revenue. This must be
stopped.
The CDC has been the gold standard worldwide in dealing with
public health. Since it has become
compromised we need to find new sources of facts. This is not good for the nation or the world. We can only hope that when this is over the results are not irreversible and real science will prevail.
In the meantime, you really don't need to put salt in the corners of your bedroom, I assure you the vampires won't come either way. Like the link between vaccines and autism, vampires don't exist.
